It's finally time to celebrate the year of the pig for Lunar New Year and Valencia is no exception! Make the most of this festivity by attending the Chinese New Year Parade and grabbing a bite at the most authentic Chinese restaurants in the city.

Although Chinese New Year takes place on 5 February, the main Chinese New Year festivities will take place during 9 Februrary in Valencia.
The celebrations will mainly take place from 10:00h until 18:00h at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento featuring different activities organized by the Instituto Confucio de la Universitat de València including Chinese cultural performances and culinary exhibitions. Make sure you attend the Chinese New Year Parade that will take place at 18:30h starting at Calle Pelayo and ending at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, going through the streets Calle Xàtiva and Calle Marqués de Sotelo.
Celebrate the Year of the Pig
In 2019, the lunar calendar sees the arrival of the Year of the Pig. This year is commonly attributed with positive qualities such as prosperity, desire, strength, organization or fertility (Instituto Confucio, 2019). This new year (year 4717 in the Chinese tradition) begins on 5 February, 2019 and will complete its cycle of 354 days on January 24, 2020. Besides, the pig is the last animal that completes the series of twelve that integrates the Chinese zodiac. Those born in 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 or 2019 were all born in the Year of the Pig – which The Chinese zodiac attributes characteristics such as compassionate, persistent and generous.
